Countries around the world, including Japan, have embarked on providing greater assistance for development in Africa. At the Fourth Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD IV) held in Yokohama in May, Prime Minister Yasuo Fukuda pledged to double Japan's official development assistance to Africa by 2012. One key issue for helping development in Africa is education for women.
